The traditional approach to dealing with toilet cleaning and smells from urinals is to
use bleaches, sanitisers and masking agents. These chemicals act by destroying any
organic material an? eliminating all bacteria they come in contact with - not just
those which cause smells. Due to this indiscriminate action, these chemicals which
are biocidal in action are not compatible with subsequent wastewater treatment.
They cause problems with microbial activity in septic tanks, package treatment plants
and on board sewage treatment plants.
Untreated toilets and urinals are subject to smells
arising from uric acid, urea and other organics. In particular
crystals of uric acid act as a point of attachment for
other organics that then decay giving rise to off odours.
In hard water areas limescale causes similar problems.
The Toilet Clean combines the benefits of biodegradable
surfactant and microbial technologies. The product contains
biodegradable surfactants and wetting agents that act
to clean the surface and penetrate into deposits. The
formulation contains a natural acid that helps to gradually
dissolve uric acid and limesc71e. It also contains a foam
control agent which prevents excessive foaming. This is
an important consideration in certain toilets based on
a vacuum system. These systems are normally found on board
ships and ferries.
The microbial part of the product consists of stabilised bacteria that produce
enzymes to degrade uric acid, urea and other organics in the toilet environment. This
degradation process is very efficient and eliminates these organics as a food source
for odour causing organisms so that smells are eliminated and not just masked. This
degradation process continues as the water flows down the drains to the sewer
ensuring that drains are kept clear. This natural process is exactly what occurs in a
wastewater treatment plant so the product is entirely compatible with all forms of
effluent treatment. |

Conditions of use
Since the product is biological in nature it should not be used in conjunction with
bleaches, sanitisers, caustics or acids.
In cases where there is heavy encrustation with limescale
it is recommended that the limescale be removed using
chemical treatment with acid based products before starting
to use the Toilet Clean for regular cleaning.
Directions for use
The product is supplied as a concentrate and should be diluted 1 to 10 with clean
water before use.
Apply the product to the entire surface of the urinal or toilet bowl and scrub well
using a toilet brush. Leave in contact with the surface for 20 - 30 minutes before
flushing. Use as a direct replacement for chemical toilet cleaners. The product can
also be used on walls and floors around urinals and toilets to clean and eliminate
smells.
Ensure that no sanitisers or bleaches are used while
the Toilet Clean is being used.
The product contains no harsh chemicals such as acid, caustic or solvents. The
components of the product are biodegradable in accordance with OECD guidelines. |
